Flexography (often summarized as flexo) is a printing process that uses a flexible relief plate. It is essentially a modern version of letterpress that can be used to print on almost any surface. It is also considerably handled for printing smooth surfaces such as food packaging, it is also handled for large areas of solid color printing.
In more detailed flexographic printing terms, as in letterpress, the image area is above the plate surface. The difference is that flexo uses a rubber image carrier and alcohol-based inks. The process is usually belt fed and is used for medium to long multi-color runs on a variety of substrates, including heavy paper, fibreboard, and sheet metal and plastic. The main uses of flexographic printing in the market are laminates, multi-walled bags, milk cartons, gift wraps, folding cartons, corrugated cardboard, cups, paper plates, labels, ribbons and envelopes.
Almost all milk carton packaging, paper bags and half of all flexible packaging are handled by flexographic printing.
